Union Experience
Thomas A Hannigan has been a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over forty years. He completed his apprenticeship and worked as an electrician and foreman. He was appointed International Representative and was the assistant director and the director of the Research and Education Department. He also served as the Administrative Assistant to International Secretaries Joseph D. Keenan, Ralph A. Leigon, and Jack F. Moore. He is a member of IBEW Local Union 134, the National Writers Union, the Industrial Relations Research Association, the International Industrial Relations Research Association, and the Association for Union Democracy.Management Expertise
His principle management responsibilities included support for collective bargaining negotiations, labor union education, leasing and tenant relations, fleet management, bonding and risk management, and facilities management. In addition, he had administrative responsibility for the following departments: COPE and Legislative, Finance and Accounting, Purchasing, Office Operations, Computer Services, and Personnel.;President Carter appointed him to the U.S. Metric Board and he was a consultant to President Johnson’s Commission on Urban Housing and President Nixon’s Commission on Low-Income Housing. He was a member of the Labor Advisory Committees for the AFL-CIO (George Meany) Center for Labor Studies and the Cornell University, New York State School of Labor and Industrial Relations. He was also a member of the National Planning Association Advisory Committee for the Study of U.S. Participation in Free Trade Agreements.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Technology Management from the University of Maryland and completed the internationally acclaimed Harvard Graduate Business School’s Executive Education Program, “Managing the Information Services Resource”. His many lectures include Notre Dame University, the U.S. Naval Academy, the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, the AFL-CIO Center for Labor Studies, the National Economist Club, and the U.S. Senior Executive Service
